Sinan Korkmazer / Nevşehir, Oct 9 ( ) - Turkey’s historical region of Cappadocia in Central Anatolian province of Nevşehir has been visited by more than 2 million visitors, according to Provincial Culture and Tourism Directorate.
According to data, 2.21 million local and foreigner tourists have flocked to Capadoccia in the Jan-Sept. season. Last year, the number of visitors has seen 2.27 million. In Sept. 2015, on the other hand, 282 thousand people visited the historical region.
Top destination: Göreme Open Air Museum
Some of the top tourism destinations in the region were Göreme Open Air Museum with more than 103 thousand , followed by Derinkuyu Underground City with more than 46 thousand . The third top destination was Kaynaklı Underground City, with more than 43 thousand visitors.
The Zelve, Mustafapaşa and Open Palace sites, along with underground cities of Derinkuyu, Kaymaklı, Tatlarin, Özkonak, St. Jean Cathedral, Museums of Nevşehir, Ürgüp and Hacıbektaş Veli were other top tourism attraction points, according to the Directorate of Tourism.
